4DX Video Player (“the app”) is an Android video player. It lets you browse videos stored on your phone, play them, resume where you left off, use folders, favorites, history, subtitles, and picture-in-picture. Package name: com.appbyte.playbox.

Who we are

Data processed on your phone

The app processes the following on this device. Your video files are not uploaded to our servers.

• Video library — after you grant media/storage permission, the app reads video files on the device (title, folder, duration, size, date, thumbnail) so it can list and play them. It does not need access to your photos for this. On Android 14 and later you may choose to grant access to selected videos only.
• Playback — the file you open is decoded on the device. Optional picture-in-picture keeps playback visible while you use other apps.
• Resume, favorites, and history — last playback position, favorite IDs, recent videos, theme, sort/view options, and similar settings are stored in local app storage (SharedPreferences). History is limited to recent items on the phone.
• Subtitles — if you paste SRT text, it stays on the device for that playback. We do not upload captions.
• Share — if you share a video or the app listing, Android’s share sheet sends only what you choose to the app you pick. We do not receive that share.
• Network videos — if you open a video URL, the app streams it from that address. We do not host those files.
• Ad configuration cache — ad unit IDs returned for this app are cached locally so ads can load if the network is slow.

What we do not collect

We do not create an account. We do not collect your name, email, contacts, photos, SMS, precise GPS, payment details, or the contents of your videos. We do not sell personal data.

What leaves the phone

Your video files, watch history, favorites, resume positions, and subtitles are not uploaded to AppByte servers.

The app does use the internet for:

• Ads — Google AdMob (Google LLC) may show banner, interstitial, and app-open ads. Google may process advertising ID, IP address, device and app identifiers, approximate location from IP, and ad interactions. See Google’s Privacy Policy and how AdMob uses data.
• Ad configuration — a request to our ads config URL that includes this app’s package name so we know which ad units to show. It does not send your video list or files.
• Play Store — when you tap Rate or similar, Android may open Google Play or the in-app review sheet.
• Streamed URLs — only if you play a network video, data is requested from that URL’s host.

Permissions (why they exist)

• INTERNET / ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE — ads, ad configuration, optional network playback, and Play Store links.
• AD_ID — advertising identifier for AdMob, as required on Android 13+.
• READ_MEDIA_VIDEO / READ_MEDIA_VISUAL_USER_SELECTED — list and play videos you allow. On older Android, READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE (and WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE on Android 9 and below) is used for the same library access.
• FOREGROUND_SERVICE — may keep playback running when the player is not in the foreground (for example picture-in-picture).

Your choices

• Deny video/media permission. The local library will be empty; you can still use the app for other playback you start yourself.
• On Android 14+, limit access to selected videos only.
• Reset or opt out of ads personalization: Android Settings → Google → Ads (wording varies by device).
• Uninstall the app to remove local history, favorites, resume data, and cached ad config stored by this app. Your video files in device storage are not deleted by uninstall.

Children

This app is not directed at children under 13. It shows ads and is intended for general audiences. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child is using it, uninstall the app.

Data retention

Local settings and history stay on the device until you clear app data or uninstall. Ad partners retain data under their own policies. We do not keep a copy of your videos.

Changes

We may update this policy. The “Last updated” date at the top will change. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy, unless Play requires a new disclosure.
